The first marmalaid color cat (short story)

Hey, it’s me speaking…. I am sorry I left you all. But as I saw leaving was the best option. This isn’t the end I wanted for our story but here I am under this big tree which I never knew the name; looking at starry sky and thinking about us and our good old days…..

As you always teased me it was fun for you that how I came home first, but my girl it was a complete disaster for me anyway. And when I think about it now, I just can’t stop waving my long tail angrily. Yes it was Wednesday, I went to that house as usual to grab something left over for my lunch mostly the only meal I had, and be satisfied. But it wasn’t the same as previous days. They were like waiting for me and gave me a very good meal with big pieces of fish. You know that how much I like for fish right? Anyway after eating I tried to sleep at their back yard. But after a while without knowing I felt that somebody grabbed me. When I opened my eyes I was inside a sack. I hope that you can imagine how scared I was but it looks that I couldn’t get out from it. I felt that the sack I was in was on something which moved fast . From the background I heard cheerful voices of kids. But as you see how the earth I can feel safe inside the sack whether kids were laughing outside. To be honest I felt terrified and regretted for being such a greedy one. But about twenty minutes later that moving stopped and somebody again grabbed the sack. I heard gates are opening and closing and doors are opening and closing. And suddenly, cheerful voice of a lady. It looked like that she was waiting for me. And people greeting each other . Slowly somebody opened the sack which I was in. But as you know I am not use for people , I born and grew in backyards and streets without a mother. So, for seconds I couldn’t understand what to do. Then that cheerful voice spoke again and I saw a beautiful face for that.

“Common kitty, come out… there’s nothing to be scared of. You are home….kitty kitty…”

You are home, I repeated that words again from my head. So far I knew I never had a home. Now she just said that I am home. She showed me some cookies but as you see my girl I am a fast learner, I have learned my lesson not to be greedy. So I stayed inside the sack for a while. It looked like that she had forgotten me. And she was keep chatting with people who brought me here, where she called home. My nostrils  filled with the smell of food , it looked like they were eating something. I couldn’t possibly understand what I should do. But my girl, you gave me answers.

Suddenly the door opened. I heard someone screaming and something felt to the floor with a thud. And in appropriately people were laughing. Then I saw a little head inside the sack, inside was darker but I swear I saw glittering eyes and yellowish teeth of a smiling kid.  A hand grabbed me softly and I let that grab me. So finally I came outside of the sack with you, to your world my girl, where I belong……..

Later I learned that cheerful lady was your mom and as you told me mine as well. And I am your birthday present from your, opps sorry from our mom to you. I can remember the first day how I stayed under a cupboard and you were near me laying on the floor and telling me some crazy stuff, which I can’t even remember but surely which make me laugh in this very moment. Your face, hands were filled with dirt because of lying on the floor but you wasn’t troubled. As I learned later you’re the dirty little kid at home. I heard some young male voice laughing and you again grabbed me out of cupboard and got up suddenly. It was my show time.

Some of new people were talking in the living room and with your arrival they started to laugh and you too joined with them. There was your papa who you secretly told me “please don’t mistakenly sleep on his bed” and smiled. Your older sister as beautiful as our mama, and your older brother with his newly grow little beard.  Our sister took me to her lap from your hand and softly tapped me, her hands were smooth so it made me sleep for a while our mama gave me a cookie so I took it and ate with a happy grin. Our papa gave me one single tap on head and smiled with me.  The new beard owner, our brother with a grin on his face slipped my tail a little saying, “congrats dude you got a long tail…” I wish that you too can remember that moment, my girl, because it was one of the best moments of my life and know yours as well. I felt warmth of a home, caring and love of a family, and most of all I was happy I got you all.

If I didn’t tell about the right next day it’ll be a mistake. And that day was an insane.

I woke up early, spent my morning with mama and papa in the kitchen till you wake up. Drank milk and ate cookies.  Then you came to the kitchen running and grabbed me and kissed me. Mama said something funny so you gave your happy big laugh and hugged mama so tightly giving nonstop kisses to her .Papa gave kisses to you and mama and tapped me on the head and left the kitchen. That day you were allowed to stay home with me. And after every one left home you did something, I should say stupid.

We went to our back garden which I haven’t being before and you kept me on the grass. Suddenly a dog ran towards you and jumped at you. You laughed loudly but it made me frightened so I try to run but with a big bark another dog jumped into me. I didn’t know what to do, I forgot everything and I was scared to death. I gave full power to my four legs and ran and I heard that dog following me with his deep bark and you running behind us to stop us both.  I managed to hide on someone’s roof and I heard you caught that dog. I saw both of you from the roof but you couldn’t see me. You were panting. That dog was still barking and jumping all around to find me. But you held the dog from her collar and made her stop. And I knew that you got dogs too……

I was too scared to come out and I was shivering. To be honest my girl I thought being homeless was better, haha…. I heard that you were searching me and calling me loudly. That dog was with you but now chained. You were calling me so loudly and asked me to come out. But I just couldn’t. You passed the roof I was on several times but I kept hiding. I just couldn’t come out. But I felt sorry about you and as well as I scared death to that dog. Some boy passed you by your side and you stopped him and asked about me. He shook his head saying no, you looked more worried. He waved you saying goodbye and you waved him back sadly. You again started looking for me, calling for me I was watching every move of you from the roof, but as I said I just couldn’t get out. You went out of my sight but still I heard you were calling for me….

I spent whole morning and half of the afternoon on the roof. Now hungry and with the disappointment of hiding.  Suddenly  I saw you again with the dog. It looked like both of you searched for me whole day long. You two were half dead, walked slowly, tiredly, heads down , towards home. I guess now that dog too was disappointed of chasing me. But still I couldn’t come out. You know, my girl, whether we showed the world that we don’t care nothing we scare to that four legged animal with bark.
Later in that after noon you came with our sister, still worried face. Sister looked determined and she was asking every little detail from you about what happened. She was thinking and looking around for a while. Suddenly her eyes stopped at the roof where I was on. She told you something and your face lightened up. You ran back home and came with a tall chair. Then I saw your glittering eyes again looking at me showing me your yellowish teeth. You were happy was loud, you told sister that I am on the roof and she laugh loudly. You extend your both arms to me and asked me to come out. And told me that your birthday is today. I   thought for a moment, and then I   jumped into your hands. You grabbed me tightly like you will never let me go. And my girl I never wanted to leave you…..

Our days were happy. Filled with enormous joy. Every day I waited by the door till you come home from school. I loved our family so much and I still do. Those dogs became my friends and protected me from the big cat who lived next door, who try to bite me every time it sees me. We slept together. We played together. And when you doing your homework, I lay silently on your table. Thinking about the happy days ahead to come. And thanking for the days we spent together . All of you didn’t exactly know that how much you all mean to me. I was happy. And I knew I was safe. I no longer begging for my single meal of the day. Mama gave me tasty food every time I am hungry with her love. No longer I needn’t to worry that some dog or cat bites me while I was sleeping. I slept comfortably under the roof of our home. And every time I caught by that big cat from next door, on the street   there’s mama and you to come and save me. And take me back home. I listened to the happy songs our mom sang while she’s cooking. And papa’s deep but caring voice who calls for you all. I watched how our brother’s beard grew day by day tighter. And how he spent more time in bathroom looking at his face and smiling to him from bathroom mirror. I loved to watch you and sister talking things at school and her college. And taking me in to your talks even though I am a guy. And how happy and beautiful her sound of laughter was.

I loved to hear you telling me crazy things, and you being disappointing that I wouldn’t understand a single thing. But my girl, I heard every word you spoke to me and understood it. I still don’t know why we, animals born to the world only with the ability to understand and not to talk. I will soon go out from the world sooner than you even imagined, so my little girl if I ever find the one who designed us  ,if there’s a one. I’d surely ask why.

I have so many lovely memories to tell to the world about us. But my time is arriving fast .I want you to know my girl that every single day I spent at our home I was happy and I felt that I am lucky.

As you already know, my girl, this is the world with the balance. With the victory comes the defeat, with the fame comes the disgrace and  with happiness comes the sorrow.
I am truly sorry that I won't be sticking with you much longer after mama left. Honestly I want to stay. I want to be the shoulder you can cry on, I know it's a metaphor, I am a cat. But I want to stay right next to you in these longer nights, until you finally fall asleep. Be your reason to smile at school, so the world will see you're still as that happy little kid. To give you the courage and support to grow to be that nice lady mama hope you'd be. And see how beautiful you will be after you grow up. Then, I can tease you remembering how you cried saying you’re the ugliest girl at school. But my girl, we cats sometimes can’t live if we loose someone who we cared so much about. But I know you are much stronger than me. you’re a human, with much bigger heart and a infinite brain capacity. I’d leave because mama left. But you’ll live and see the beauty of the world for many more years. Always with the blessings of mine and mama's.

Ahhh, one thing, can you remember that night I chased and bit that big cat from next door, I did that, because I realized that now there is no mama to save me. Yes, I know you surely can remember. For once in my brief lifetime, I became strong when being strong is the only option I was left with. So my baby girl, there’d be many stronger and rude cats in your life and of course there'd be plenty of cats who bring happiness and love with every single thing they do. So, my girl, before I leave this world, which this starry sky belongs to, I want you to know that I will always love you till eternity. If you ever need me or mama, just look at the sky, we will be waving you from up there. With every step you take we’d be watching you and protecting our little kid with the gorgeous smile.

So here’s my goodbyes…I am your first marmalade color cat...
